I’m going to write my thoughts on AI and ML and all that stuff here and how it relates to art and commerce and everything else, etc…
One of my first thoughts is about art and whether it will continue to exist at all. I think the answer is yes, as expression through art has existed for as long as we have known, all the way to back to cave paintings and beyond. I think art as a business is a bit different. Not sure where this one is going, but I do think that using AI to create art is not at all fullfilling. I am not even talking about the wholesale theft of all art that has ever existed to train AI models, just the act of using AI to make things. Us poelpe are not making the thing, but a computer program that has endless data about how to make things. I don’t see anything artically fullfilling about this. I have tried it myself quite a bit, exploring what is possible, and it just leaves me feeling bored and empty.
The prevalence of AI art is also going to keep diminishing the quality of AI art, as it will create a negative feedback loop, and the art will continue to get worse and worse as AI art generation models will keep training themselves on more AI generated art, and the output will continue to become more and more odd and nonesenical.
